About the Firm

Terra & Lumen LLC

Terra & Lumen LLC is a landscape architectural services firm based in Anaheim, California. We work with homeowners and property owners in Southern California to design exterior environments that are functional, visually cohesive, and rooted in the specific conditions of each site.

Our approach is grounded in the belief that a well-designed landscape is not simply an aesthetic exercise — it is the result of careful attention to the land itself, the way light moves across it, the structure that gives it clarity, and the living qualities that make it feel alive.

Our Story

Designed with intention

Terra & Lumen LLC was founded in Anaheim, California with a clear purpose: to bring thoughtful, design-driven landscape architecture to homeowners and property owners throughout Southern California. The firm was established by Samuel Carrillo in August 2026 as a professional practice dedicated to the design of exterior environments.

The name Terra & Lumen reflects the two forces that shape every landscape: the earth and the light. Terra is the physical reality of the land — its topography, its materials, its structure. Lumen is the quality that animates a landscape — the way afternoon light warms a stone terrace, the way shadows from a tree create pattern and rhythm across a garden path.

We believe that good landscape design begins with listening — to the site, to the client, and to the conditions that make each property unique. Every project we take on is approached as a specific design problem with its own context, constraints, and possibilities.

“The landscape is not a backdrop. It is the environment in which daily life unfolds — and it deserves to be designed with the same care as any interior space.”

The Name

Why Terra & Lumen

Terra

Land, Structure, Material, Place

Terra represents the physical foundation of landscape design — the earth itself, the materials we use to shape it, and the structural elements that give a landscape its character and permanence. Every design begins with understanding the land.

Lumen

Light, Atmosphere, Warmth, Experience

Lumen represents the experiential dimension of landscape — how a space feels, how light moves through it, the atmosphere it creates at different times of day and across seasons. Good design considers not just what a landscape looks like, but how it feels to be in it.

Together, Terra and Lumen describe the full experience of a well-designed landscape — grounded in the physical reality of the site, and elevated by the atmospheric qualities that make outdoor spaces feel like places worth spending time in.
